Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, also known as KMC Mangalore, was established in the year 1955. The pre-clinical section of Kasturba Medical College started its operations in Mangalore during 1961. The medical college shifted to full independence from other institutions in 1977. The institution's facilities match those of international medical institutions through its seven air-conditioned lecture halls equipped with modern audio-visual teaching aids, including multimedia projectors, and a contemporary air-conditioned library with approximately 500 seating capacity and internet access.
The medical library maintains over 10,000 books and holds subscriptions to more than 350 medical journals annually. In addition to Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry departments, there are two large lecture halls accommodating 250 students each. First-year students are provided hostel accommodations with separate facilities for boys and girls within the basic sciences complex. Students at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore can access nine hostel accommodations, five of which are dedicated to female medical students.
Currently ranked among the top 25 medical colleges in India, KMC Mangalore holds the record for receiving the most ICMR STS awards in the country.
