In order to serve as a role model for providing skilled, compassionate healthcare to the most vulnerable members of society, Dr. Somervelle Memorial CSI Medical College was established in 2002.
The college is one of the oldest medical colleges of Kerala which got established along with Amala Medical College and Jubilee Mission Medical College. Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Hospital was one of the six medical colleges that were established in 2002 with National Medical Council (NMC) approval.

The Dr. Somervell Memorial Mission Hospital is a facility that is affiliated with Dr. Somervell Medical College and is situated in the village of Karakona, on the southern edge of Thiruvananthapuram. The process of counseling for MBBS in Kerala is conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination Kerala. NEET counseling is usually conducted online through Centralised Admission Process (CAP) in three stages, including a mop-up round. Requirement of the admission process Eligibility Criteria: The student is required to clear or passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as mandatory subjects and must have achieved a minimum of 50% marks in combined of all subjects (40% marks for SC/ST/OBC candidates).
