MAHARASHTRA NEET MBBS COUNSELLING for Medical & Dental program in Maharashtra NEET UG 2020 is being conducted by The “Directorate of Medical Education & Research, Maharashtra”.
MAHARASHTRA NEET MBBS COUNSELLING will be conducted for the 85% Government & 100% Private Medical & Dental seats.
There are 25 Government, 19 Private Medical College, 12 Deemed and 1 AIIMS in Maharashtra which offers 6009 State quota MBBS seat. Seat Allotment for AIIMS & Deemed will be done through centralized Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).
There are 3 rounds of MAHARASHTRA NEET MBBS COUNSELLING process which includes “Round 1”, “Round 2” and “Mop up” round all three are getting conducted online.
seats are vacant after mop up then college round will be conducted, also known as “Stray round or College level Spot Round”

SALIENT FEATURES OF MAHARASHTRA COUNSELING
- There is no security deposit applicable
- All three rounds are conducted online.
- Registration open only once before Round 1.
- Document verification will be done physically after the allotment of seat.
- Other State students can apply for 15% Institutional Quota seat in Private Medical Colleges.
- NRI candidates will be given preference at the time of allotment then other State students.
- Choice filling is allowed only once during round 1.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students must qualify NEET.
- Must be Indian Citizen to claim seat under Govt./Private/Management.
- Foreign National can also apply for seats under NRI/Other Quota.
- Non-Domicile can apply for 15% Institutional Quota.
- Students must have passed 12th or equivalent exams.
- Those who didn’t get any seat in any round are eligible to participate in the mop up round.
- Those who got the seat and taken admission but not filled status retention form will be considered for the mop up round.
Type of Seat
- Government seat - Seat offered in a Government Medical/Dental colleges in Maharashtra. (Only Domicile candidate can apply)
- Private seat – Seat offered in a Private Medical/Dental colleges in Maharashtra (other state can apply for 15% Institutional quota, for remaining 85% only Maharashtra domicile can apply)
- NRI seat – These seats are reserved in the Private Medical/Dental Colleges for the NRI students.
- Government Aided seat – These are Government subsidized fee in a Private Medical College (Maharashtra Domicile can apply).

Steps Involved in the Counseling Process
- Register online on www.mahacet.org by paying 1000 for State Quota, 5000 for
- Login using your ID and password, take print out of your online application.
- Merit list will be published.
- Fill your choices online.
- Don’t forget to Lock your choices (System won’t do it automatically)
- Final result will be declared
- Payment of fees via online and designated branches of HDFC Bank.
- Reporting and original document submission at Help center.
- Report to college.
- You can opt for up-gradation.
- Those who wish to resign can do it.
- Registration will open only once during Round 1.
Choice after Allotment of Seat
- Option 1 – If you are satisfied with your allotment, you can report at the Help centre and further to your allotted college.
- Option 2 – You are satisfied but willing to go for up-gradation in next round by retaining your seat fill status retention form. You will be considered for the up-gradation till mop up round.
- Option 3 - If you are not satisfied with your allotted college and willing to participate in next round, you can skip reporting and stay eligible for the subsequent round.
DEFENCE CATEGORIES
(a) Def1 – For a son/daughter/spouse of an Ex-defence service personnel, domiciled in the state of Maharashtra.
(b) Def2 – For a son/daughter/spouse of Active defence service personnel domiciled in the state of Maharashtra.
(c) Def3 – For a son/daughter/spouse of Active defence service personnel, transferred to Maharashtra State from out-side Maharashtra, who is not domicile of the State of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra used to be a closed State, which means other State students cannot participate in its counseling process for Medical/Dental program. But in the year 2020, they brought a new guideline allowing other State students to participate for the 15% Institutional quota seat in its Private Medical Colleges. It brought cheers to many students who were aiming to get a seat in Maharashtra. But the fact lying with its tuition fee made it difficult for the mid and economically weaker section students to afford as the fee fixed for the institutional quota was of NRI fee which goes up to 50 Lacs in some of the colleges.
We would like to advise our Medical aspirant looking for a seat in Maharashtra to try for the Deemed College instead of Private Medical College. Although fee is still high in Deemed but comparatively lower than the Institutional quota seat in Private Medical College.
In Maharashtra NEET UG 2020 a whooping 41752 students had applied for 6109 Medical seat in the State. This shows 1:8 ratio of seat versus participant. This reflects a very high completion level in the State for the Medical seat.
